After finishing her medical residency, Jenna took a job with an emergency medicine group in Denver. She spent 8 years working in several ERs across Denver, with all the intensity, unpredictability, and meaning that came with the work. After eight years, a year of working night shifts, and two toddlers at home, it was wearing on her. At the same time, the bureaucracy was getting more intrusive, and more misaligned with patient care. When several things converged and led to a hiatus, timing was right to turn it into a career pivot.

She took a job as Medical Director with a small health technology company in Boulder, CO. As happens with small companies, she wore many hats in this role, but primarily she did extensive amounts of literature review and writing in all formats.

She researched and wrote material for product development, staff education, customer education, conferences, marketing, outreach to physician affiliates, as well as managed SEO and their Google Ads account. It was a great experience and she learned a huge amount. But after seven years, it was time for another pivot. 

She is enjoying the current pivot as it unfolds. She has worked on short term contracts writing material for AI training, which has sparked her interest in technology. She loves learning and is inspired by the feeling of openness and possibilities. She finds herself more than ever able to enjoy this pivot as a valid experience in itself, rather than just a means to another end.

So, she is working on a way to make this “pivot” permanent..

Jenna went to the University of Colorado at Boulder, in Boulder CO, for undergraduate studies, and graduated magna cum laude with with double majors in psychology and molecular, cellular, and developmental biology, and a minor in biochemistry. This is where she fell in love with the mountains and Colorado, and where she would ultimately return.

She got her MD from Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia, PA, then moved to the opposite corner of the country to do her pediatric residency at the University of California at San Diego. She trained at Rady Children’s Hospital, a busy regional pediatric center where residents encountered everything from common childhood illnesses to rare conditions they might never see again in their careers.

Living on the beach was also fun for a few years. She owned a surf board, and narrowly escaped death on it once or twice. But she missed the mountains, and when she finished training, she took a job in Colorado.
